Curriculum Integration

Collaborative Online International Learning/Virtual Exchange

The transition to remote learning environments has created greater opportunities for virtual international engagement and broadening strategic internationalization in the College of Engineering. Integrating Collaborative Online International Learning/Virtual Exchange (COIL/VE) into existing or new courses promotes student development of global competencies and understanding engineering in an international context. The COIL/VE pedagogy is a model where international partners collaborate on projects, discussions, integrated teamwork with authentic engagements to enhance intercultural competencies for participants.

There are a number of engineering courses that have successfully implemented the COIL/VE pedagogy into the curriculum.

ENGR 5797.22S (VE) - Guatemala Engineering Service-Learning

ENGR 5797.24 (VE) - Sustainable Community Development - Honduras

ENGR 5797.25 (VE) - International Perspectives on Aviation

CIVILEN 5581 - Numerical Methods in Geotechnical Engineering

CIVILEN 3530 - Learning from Disasters: Extreme events and their impact on infrastructure, engineering and society

The Office of International Affairs, Education Abroad team can also support online global teaching and learning by providing resources on virtual exchange models, managing the application process and outreach assistance, and course coding.

Virtual Academy - Faculty Matching

Are you looking for an opportunity to meet international faculty and collaborate on course content? Partner with universities throughout Germany to add global perspectives on various topics. These collaborations can be as minimal as one event or class, or it is an opportunity to develop long lasting relationships with faculty colleagues to continue collaborations in areas of interest beginning with courses and extending to research.
