New Dawn for Ohio State Solar Education & Outreach

Tucked away off Lane Avenue sits the enCORE solar-powered house at The Ohio State University. Today, the property remains rural enough to forget it’s surrounded by rush hour traffic, towering buildings and high rise student accommodations on campus.

Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Professor Paul Berger said enCORE is a hidden icon of sustainable energy at Ohio State. More efforts are underway to not only revive interest in it, but renew student involvement in solar-powered energy research across the university.

This includes working with the Solar Education & Outreach (SEO) student organization on campus both and the enCORE house and in re-igniting the organization's signature international service-learning program at a new location in Tanzania.
